Not film noir, this is film blanc!

If the former is a style of filmmaking with cynical heroes, stark lighting, flashbacks, and existentialist philosophy then what the hell is the latter? No fancy philosophies here, just a bloody good film night in a backcountry hut with (hopefully) snowy whiteness all around.

Think of a group of like minded souls who made it there by ski, splitboard or snowshoe. There to watch the film of Huw Kingston's Alpine Odyssey, to enjoy popcorn, fine Bright Brewery brews or indeed a hot brew on the camp stove. There to enjoy the camaraderie. There to raise funds for Save the Children and Protect Our Winters. There to talk about a shared love of the Australian Alps, our experiences out there and our concerns for the future. There for a laugh or two.

In addition to Alpine Odyssey, we'll screen a couple of other films from our alpine backcountry.

Each person attending is responsible for reaching the hut under their own steam and is fully responsible for their own skill and safety. These screenings are for experienced backcountry skiers/snowboarders/snowshoers only, who are prepared to travel for up to 3 hours each way in winter conditions. Attendees will camp near the hut (but are not allowed to camp in the hut itself) so need to be fully prepared for a winter snow camping trip.

A massive thanks to NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS), the Victorian Department of Energy, Environment & Climate Change and Mt Stirling Alpine Resort for their assistance and permission to hold these screenings.

Each screening is limited to 30 participants.

Cost

$50/person to include film screening, popcorn and drinks and a chance to win some prizes. All ticket proceeds to Save the Children and Protect Our Winters. Tickets available here.
