Alpine Odyssey-The Film
Came to a brewery/cinema/pub/hall or mountain near you!
Huge thanks to everyone who attended a screening of Alpine Odyssey in Winter 2024. It was a load of fun whether in a city cinema, a fine brewery or a backcountry hut. Some $28,000 was raised from tickets, raffles and auctions shared between two organisations very close to my heart.
Alpine Odyssey, a film by Ivan Hexter, tells the story of my winter 2022 journey along the 700km length of the Australian Alps, a journey I first undertook 27 years ago. The 50-day traverse also had me skiing at each of the dozen mainland Australian snow resorts en route. It was a journey across country I have loved for decades, a journey to celebrate the mountains and communities that make up this very special, very small part of Australia. But with love also comes concern and care.
Screenings raised funds for Save the Children and Protect Our Winters (POW), two organisations I'm very proud to be an Ambassador for. Funds were raised via entry tickets, raffles/auctions etc. We had some $30,000 in prizes to get rid of this winter - over $7000 in an Overall Raffle, drawn at the end of winter, and some $22,000 to use at individual screenings.
Whilst the film was core to each event there were other elements to entertain the crowds! POW presented details on some of the important work they are doing here in Australia including the release, back in June 2024, of a major new report into the impacts of climate change on the Australian Alps ecology and economy.
Uniquely there were two special screenings out in the mountains at a backcountry hut. Details here.
